Bear escape tactics?

So it's been about a week and I've seen about 7 bears in my wanderings. Only once did one manage to spot me before I spotted it. I quickly learned that outrunning the bear wasn't a good idea, and one swipe later I was KO'd.

I had forgotten at the time that bears don't attack KO'd players so I thought I was just lagging or something, so I just started mashing on my travel to hearth fire button. I actually managed to warp out during the short period after I got up from being KO'd but before the bear that was standing on top of me could reengage.

Is this something that can done reliably with bears or did I just luck out?

You lucked out. You just have to stay close to your boat and keep your eyes peeled.

only ways to escape is
a)shelter near (cave/house/boat; palisadewall if you are fast enough to close it before he rus in)
b) to either log out after ko'ed (->autologoff as soon bear deaggroed and your ko-status is gone) or -as you did- stress your hf-teleport shortcut a bit

Also, OP, bears will attack you if you're KO'd. And they will kill you.

Don't forget "run into the river shallows," at least if there are some that take you far enough from shore!

That might have been true in the past, but right now if you get KO'd by a bear he'll stop, still hang around though...

If only we had a feign death move, it'd make bears a lot less menacing

Also, OP, bears will attack you if you're KO'd. And they will kill you.

Well this happened to me like 4 days ago. Maybe it just got changed or something?

Or maybe you got his so hard it depleted all your defense, HP AND HHP all in one shot?

Sometimes they attack you after KO, sometimes not. I think it's random.
