Babby's first mining operation

Postby Fichina » Sun Feb 13, 2011 11:23 pm

So I was pretty content to just farm and forage but after a few rustroots I noticed I had settled on a copper vein. So I figure I need to give mining at least a chance.

1. Can cave-ins hurt/kill you?

2.I also found an iron vein nearby, should I try my hand there instead?

3. I still want to farm, is having a neutral nature/industry slider that big a problem?

4. Is it mentally stable to construct a mine hole before you have a brickwall?

There are thousands of threads about the new mining system. Search around a bit.

Also, you'll probably want to make separate characters for farming and mining. Pump one full industry and strength, and the other full nature and farming.

1. Yes, every rock that hits you does 50 damage. You can be hit with multiple rocks at once!
2. Mine the copper first so you can build supports, chests, etc.. Then expand into the iron for tools, wrought, and steel.
3. You will fail at both a lot but it is viable to do so. It just means less ore, less successful ore smelted, fewer seeds from crops, lower tree growing success, less gray clay/cave clay/feldspar from foraging, fewer silk filaments from cocoons, and a few other things I'm sure I'm forgetting.
4. Yes. Just build a palisade around it and make sure not to trap yourself. Don't leave room to build a ram inside. There is a very good chance a wallbreaker isn't going to mine his way into your mine and wreck your shit when he could have just wrecked your outside wall to the same degree of success.
