Are cellar's illuminated like the inside of the house?

And on the matter of Caves... How far can you dig into the wall before a cave in may happen? We're hoping to dig out the cave to make room for some cabins and timber houses.

It's four tiles surrounding one space, or so I've heard. If you want to be able to dig out for that kind of work, you'll need supports. Either that or expendable diggers.

So I can dig four tiles into the wall on either side of the cave before a chance of cave in?

Edit, thank you for the cellar thing :3
