Quality of Beehive

I've been reading the wiki and searching the forums, and I cannot find a single consistent answer:

Does the quality of the Beehive affect anything within the game at all? It seems to, but then again, no one seems to know how exactly it works. From a brief summation of the information gathered, it appears to be bugged and completely unpredictable? For what matter, what determines the quality of the beehive, as in the exact formula?

Essentially the average of the materials used to make it. So (2Block+2Board+10Straw)/14 = Hive Quality.
You are correct, no one knows exactly how beehives work. They should increase the quality of the wax and honey they produce but no one is 100% sure. They probably do though, likely in conjunction with other factors such as surrounding crop qualities, types of crops, and random variables inherent in quality.
