The Great Tree Regrowth

Postby farmchamp » Thu Aug 20, 2009 3:02 am

It doesn't matter if they re set the map, the trees will still be lost unless they actually DO something. My idea is that when a tree is chopped down, it will put 3 new sprouts around the tree, fairly far away from the stump, that can't be seen until the next day. If the wood is taken and used, it will grow back slower. If not, it is probably some griefer, and will grow back extremely fast. Also, dropping a cone or apple core on the ground will have a 5% if it becoming a sprout, that will grow extremely slowly. Like 2 weeks slow. Thoughts?

It took months for this map to become noticeably deforested. There is still plenty of forest around that hasn't been clearcut, in the outer reaches of it. The new map... well... I wish you the best of luck trying.

Problem with that for new players is usually that the animals become more hostile farther out.
But I'm sure since you're out there you can handle them, even if you just joined today.

So you want trees popping out of nowhere with absolutely no effort?

I don't understand the general tree drama anyway. You don't even have to go that far, 5th or 6th ring are enough to see plenty of trees.

If you cut down trees, they will grow more. It can knock a cone down, drop an apple, that's all it takes. Why not in a game?

This would take longer than planting them yourselves, and perhaps less resources this way? This isn't to make you have more supplies, it's to counteract griefers. That's why it would take a loooooooooong time to grow if you pick up your stuff and use it, quickly if it's just a griefer cutting stuff down for fun.
