Tracking Scents

Hello people, from what i've read and been told, tracking(killing the guy probably is more hard) a scent is only about following the darker red slice of the circle. The smaller it is, the closer you are.
Its always been kind of strange for me, since there is a point where the small sice is really small, and yet, i walk 1 supergrid and and it still points in the same direction.
Tonight i downloaded ender to try out, and to my surprise, the direction and what i guess is the angle of the slice appeared. i approached as much as delta:9, yet due to a stupid mistake over changed belts i hearted away back to my hf (damn you ender). Thing is, i wanted to try what angle it would say back at my home, pretty much 1 super grid away (1.03SG from the point i was according to googlemap's rule), and to my surprise, it said delta:11.
Does that mean that 2 grades equals 1 super grid? Or that the closest you are the slower the angle decreases its ºs?
