Quality

Postby anasky » Thu Feb 17, 2011 2:20 pm

Why does quality matter so much, and in a global explanation, what does it do?

As far as I've seen, food doesn't become better when at a higher quality, nor does my bone saw give more logs when I use a higher q.

Read the wiki.

Quality matters for almost everything.

For one, quality has a direct correspondance to the amount of damage that you can do with weapons and the amount of damage averted or absorbed by armor.

I did, but didn't seem to find a global explanation

The main thing with quality is that higher quality food gives more feps, levelling your character more efficiently.

Higher quality tools (excluding things like scythes, shovels, plows etc) give higher quality products (eg, better boards with a better saw) which are used to build better quality items (herbalist tables, for example) which go towards better food production.

Better quality armor and weapons give better protection and deal more damage.

Better quality jewellery and clothes give higher stats.

Quantity is the beginning. Quality is the endgame.

It's simple, sqrt(Quality/10) is the multiplier for how much you get out of an item. So at Q10 you have base quality. Lets say you're eating some Brodgar Blue Cheese for 75 Str FEPs. At Q10, it's just 75, at Q40 it's 150, at Q90 it's 225. You get a lot more for the same amount of time by going for quality. In terms of combat, a Q10 Bronze Sword does 250 Damage, Q40 does 500, Q90 does 750. Having quality goods puts you in a huge lead fast.

Wow!
That sounds like a pretty neat system.

So those q1 pumpkin fleshes I have are quite useless? :P

I spent a few minutes thinking of a few to make it sound like they weren't absolutely terrible. The best I could come up with is that if you have good water and flour, you'll only moderately damage the quality of some pumpkin bread!

Hmm, true.

Well, I disconnected with my other 7 pumpkins lying around and they disappeared :S
Guess I'll just build my way up with the q1 I have atm (my wheat and flax is atm at q9-q13... lol)

Thanks for the help guys :)
