Soil Quality changing?

Postby hybridluis » Thu Feb 17, 2011 11:58 pm

this is my first post, total noob here

i recently started farming, and when i started the soil quality around my house was between 16-14, 2 hasvests now and the soil quality has risen to 20-21

several things have changed in my char so i was wondering if higher exploration gives better soil?, or maybe higher farming?, or maybe harvesting in the same place improves the soil?

i know the wiki says this is impossible, that the only way to have better soil is exploring and finding it, but the soil in my house got better in the 4 days i have been here, im
not crazy

You sure it wasn't first dug down to 14-16 and went back to its normal Q of 20?

nope, we ( me and my brother), didnt digg too much in here, and everytime it was 15-16 q , it went down to 14 during a grinding spree, but it was 15 from the very beginning, when nobody was living here yet

Someone had dug up a lot of soil in your spot, as igglebert suggested. This lowered the quality to probably q10 and since you've settled there the soil node has had a chance to heal itself and raise back up in quality. It's entirely possible you live on a very large node and that someone lives on another part of it, digging up soil and draining the node of quality.

Rivers intersect all landmasses, so it's difficult to call anywhere an island except for the smaller land masses. Nodes can be HUGE and extend several hundred tiles in every direction from the center. It's possible that this person isn't even on the same landmass as you. It is safe to say that your soil node did not magically get better though.

OK, thanks for the explanation and the swift replies

now i can only hope bigger noobs than me dont come dig grinding a hundred tiles near my house!

and yes, technically, if the landmass its completely surrounded by water is an island, even if the water is a river or a lake

thanks guys

By your definition there are no continents then, just islands.
Don't hold your breath about people not digging up soil. It's one of the easiest things to bot for lp, even if it's terrible lp.
