Mapping Caves

Postby TeckXKnight » Fri Feb 18, 2011 4:35 am

With the heightened usefulness of caves, it's becoming more and more convenient to utilize them as more permanent homes and mines though the issue of navigation is always there. Is there any way to map a cave automatically or is the best if not only solution to draw it out by hand?

Draw it by hand or use runes inside the cave to give directions

PS careful you don't find any molerats in that cave ;)

Max zoom in ender's client isn't too bad.

It's not but the cave system I'm working with is fairly massive and I'd like a reliable way to convey that information to others too.

Agreed with OP, it would bring an actual use to the cartographer skill, as programs map the surface for us.

That's not what I said at all. It seems I should get the old sketch pad and scanner out though =)

Forgive me for implying such an obviously silly thing, as your original post was so well written and informed, it was ignorant of me to assume that's not what you meant.

from "is there a way to map caves automatically or do i have to do it by hand?" to the cartographer skill is quite a leap of reading creativity

If it weren't for the fact that burning bricks is about as much fun as watching paint dry, I wouldn't get to see such lovely conversations. It's like watching a rendition of 'Waiting for Godot' reading the comments Mikey Six posts and brings out.
