Do battering rams break down from actual use?

Topic. I know MOVING battering rams breaks them down, but I'm not sure about actually using them to slam walls.

I ask because I've got a character with 40 str and wanted to know if I could chip damage a wall down

Nope, using a battering ram does not decay it, only movement and being outside of a claim.
You also decay it faster by moving it across unpaved ground.
