Prospecting... again

Postby Ununnilium » Sat Feb 19, 2011 1:17 am

Hello there,
my friend and I have started searching for some minerals in our cave using rustroot. I couldn't really find any exact info on this on wiki, so I'm asking. After few tries, we happened to get into this phase: http://img691.imageshack.us/i/beznzvugv.png/

Not sure what to do next. Are there minerals in the walls nearby? (not enough STR to mine yet) or are we supposed to build a minehole in that circle? (can't afford to just try, too many resources)
Any help appreciated, thanks. :)

Nope, if you prospect it always is right below you. That means the ore you found is in Layer 2. To get to it, you'll need to build a mine hole right there in the cave and digging down. The best way to prospect on your own level is to just chip the walls looking for ore.

If you're getting stone, does that mean there's necessarily ore?

Nope, all walls contain stone. Not all walls contain ore. Just keep chipping till you get lucky =)

Not like it's bad lp, either. :D

I just have to make sure not to cave in on myself again. Fortunately, I got missed by all the rocks. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough str to break through the ring of rocks around me and had to hearth.

Don't stand on cleared tiles when prospecting like this, that way rocks can't land on you. Also skip every other tile to save time and prevent cave-ins. The more consecutive tiles you dig out in a line, the more likely a cave-in is to occur.

Nope, if you mine and get stone it means there is no ore there. If you get ore, there will be no stones.

Sarge, isn't there like a 20% chance of getting an ore? (at full industry)

The chance comes into play when you smelt it. It's the chance your ore turns into bars.
