Turn sound off?

so i searched before hand seeing how simple a question this seems to be but found nothing.

can you turn the sound off?

i like to play music in the background but when ever i (or someone else) kills something or chops something its waaaay too loud.

yep, it is to loud. i also want to know this.

Too bad. There's enough programs out there that can exceed their 100% volume, VLC Media player is one of them.

so... theres console commands to fix the cam, fullscreen, but none to turn the sound off?

i kinda find that hard to believe
