Should I build this iron mine?

I've found a iron mine near my village and I've got 27 strength. Is there any point in getting all the beeswax required to build the mine?

Or should i look for a mine that has a softer metal?

I think so far no relation has been found between wall strength requirement and kind of metal/quality. Iron is a good thing to have, I'd say go for it.

Correct, there is no relation between metal type and wall hardness. Only one way to find out if you're able to dig and that's to build the mine. Iron is certainly valuable enough to justify the effort.
