Arrow softcap stat..

Postby ZtruK » Tue Feb 22, 2011 8:26 am

I think I know the answer so this is half venting.. so the Archery wiki says that arrows are sofcapped by Carpentry, so I cranked it. Then I look at the bone arrow wiki and it says survival. It's survival right? bah..

Well I'm not too sure since I'm somewhat of a nooblet myself, but I believe raising your survival skill will increase quality of bones you can find, thereby increasing quality of your arrows. I don't know if carpentry comes into play when making the bone arrows, but finding high q bones seems obvious enough.

Thanks that's what I thought. How does softcap work? It doesn't seem to be direct. I have something like 7 survival and I used a q30 bone wtih q10 branch and got a q20 bone arrow. Shouldn't that have been q7? Or is it not 1:1 with softcap vs the stat?

hmm maybe I was wrong about my arrow quality. I guess it should have been (((30+10)/2)+7)/2 = 13.5

So it can be higher than your softcap and I didn't care about their Q because my bow was only 13...

Oh my.. the quality grind just hit me like a ton of Q10 bricks..

So my 50 MM is useless until I can get a q25 bow and q25 arrows. To do so I need better exploration to find better string and better branches which require better water and soil to put in a better treepot which requires better clay and a better kiln that also requires better clay and branches for fuel and I need more dex to not softcap the pot and survival for arrows... all to do one thing... save me jaysus

Getting Q25 branches is simple if you have even basic clay, soil, and water. Q30+ soil is outrageously common, and q25 soil and water nodes are just as easy to find. Getting Q100+ string is also easy, just kill a bear, skin it, dry the skin, and make the skin into hide straps. You'll have a good bow in no time.

ah thanks for tip. I actually have a spare dried bear hide. Forgot you can make string with it. The branches for lots of arrows is the hard part. Trees take forever to grow. Just a matter of time I guess.

Bone arrows. With even just 50 survival, you can utilize boar and deer kills to mass produce high enough quality bone arrows to match your bow. Bear bones work fine too.

Edit: Antlers, Tusks, and Bear Teeth can be turned into bones and used as if they were bones for all intents and purposes if you need more bones.

IIRC bone has twice the weight of branch in arrow q.
