How to tell is a place is inactive?

Postby Tamalak » Fri Feb 25, 2011 1:34 am

There's several buildings, personal claims, and crops very close to an area we want to build on. There is no active village claim. There are crops that are growing strong but there are also plowed areas that are becoming quickly overgrown. I saw no sign of life.

How can I tell if they're active or not?

Well if there is any hearth fires then people still log on and live there but i there arent any (in the village) there might not be any hearthlings living there. Hope that helps :)

I do see hearth fires. How long do you have to be logged out before they vanish?

Watch the hearth fire smoke. If it's a dark green, they're online. If it's a pale green, they're offline. Just keep checking to see if they ever turn dark green.

I know it turns green when someone is online, but I am scouting a large area that is far from our current base, I'm not going to be coming back..

What are the best ways of determining if a settlement is active on ONE visit assuming I see nobody online?

State of fields is the best indicator. If most of the ploughed tiles are gone, it's very likely abandoned.

About half of the plowed areas are gone. But there are also solid blocks of crops. So does that mean there or abandoned?

what are the condition of structures that you can see, do they look like they're decaying a fair bit (have a dark red hue), same with the walls if alot look like they're about ready to collapse it might be inactive, i'm currently watching one waste away near where me and some friends set up, when i found it there was only a small bit of the wall missing and there were 5 homes and a bunch of crates and a field, now there's 3 homes, most of the crates and crops have either been taken or decayed, and there's maybe a 3rd of the wall left, i figured it won't last another week.
