Really dumb question

How do I run. I've tried ctrl+r and clicking on the icons on the screen, however my character remains at a crawl. What am I doing wrong?

Just keep looking. You'll come across animals eventually. Takes a while sometimes

So what do I do know? I seem to be trapped on an island with nothing but trees. Still no sign of any other life to steal some bones from.

You're in a real pickle if this is the case and your first and best option would be to deforest enough to learn Boat Making then promptly use the wood to make a boat. You'll have to find a rabbit on your island first, good luck hunting one down. Once you've acquired your first rabbit by standing right next to it at run speed with a 2x2 open area in your inventory then right clicking it, you'll need to wring its neck to get the necessary bone for a bone saw so you may begin making boards for a boat. Alternatively, ask for help via passerby's or the forum.

To be honest with you. depending on how big your island is. i would make a new character.
