Smelter full of ore

Postby Loopoo » Sun Aug 23, 2009 7:30 pm

I filled my smelter with iron ore and I packed it full of charcoal, so it could do its job. I left it overnight and came back in the morning. All but ONE of the iron ores turned to cast iron, the rest were stone chips.

What the fuck? All that mining and I only get 1 bar of iron. Is this supposed to happen or is it just that unbalanced?

PS: I have full change, and my balance on the industrial slider is neutral.

10% chance to turn iron ore into an iron bar is fucking silly.

Yes, that is supposed to happen. The higher your industry the more of a chance you have.

You'll be lucky to get 2 bars out of the smelter unless you're full industry

Does full industry give a 20% chance? Cause that is still tiny.

If I had full industry and a full smelter, what would I get? 8 bars?

Strange. I haven't moved anything in my Personal Beliefs up until now, but at one time my ore smelter gave me 5 Cast Iron, sometimes, none at all. It's really a matter of luck I guess, so just keep on mining them ores.

It's fairly random. My full industry character has been known to get as few as 2 cast, or as many as 7 or more.

As for charcoal - don't fill the smelter. You only need 4 charcoal per load of ore - or 1 if you use the oven bug. (That's the same bug that causes your baked goods to burn - items sitting in an unlit smelter/finery/oven/kiln begin to 'cook', and if they sit long enough, you'll only need 1 unit of fuel to complete them; if you use 2 units, and the item can be overcooked, it will be - lots of raisin muffins got burnt before that became well known.)

There's probably no point economizing with resources going away - but on the new map, less charcoal means less trees cut, meaning less need to plant in order to keep up with deforestation.

Uh, no.
I'm neutral on industry/nature and I've got up to 6 bars from a smelter.
Very rarely 0, sometimes 1, usually 2-3.
5 is quite uncommon, but it happens. 6 I've got only twice.

I always light 2 smelters, and the 10% chance is pretty accurate. Of course, the more smelters you run at the same time, the less variance you have.

The 10% is full of crap.

I've had 3 full loads turn into stone, without any cast bars, with my slider on +1 industry.

You should stay away from Vegas.

BTW, am I the only one that thinks the thread title sounds like a rap song?
