I was killed by a bear! It knocked me out twice and decided to kill me the second time.

How do I prepare my next character to survive a bear attack? Note I don't need to kill it.. assume I'm about 30sec-1min away from safety (boat or house). Is it just a matter of pumping UA and CON? How much do I need?

I survived a bear attack with leather armor and 25-30 con.

bye survived I mean I could run 2 minimaps to my gate with the bear attacking and chasing me.I lost around 120 shp and my armor got trashed

remember I didn't fight it, just escaped to my gate to kill it slowly with bullets

For a bear, your only salvation comes in the form of Armor. You just can't possibly stop his attacks well enough that he won't kill you in one hit as a newbie. A set of q10 leather armor is enough to buy you the time you need to get to your boat or house.

I thought UA helped your dodge move. Or is it pointless to develop UA if I don't plan to fight back?

It won't help enough to stop a bear with that little UA.

It's useless when you are running, because you have 0 defence when you move no matter what your skill is. So it only helps if you got enough to actually beat the bear, and it'll be a long while before you get there. 100 UA can be enough if you're really good at the combat system, but for a new player anything less than 200 is too risky.

Doesn't armor work as a hp buffer tought, so the armor take the first damage until it break even if you are running? I think its what save my toon few times from hunting mistakes i made.
