Strange small cave

I recently found an unclaimed cave entrance and proceeded to claim it. Upon entering I found that I could only move a few tiles either side of the entrance, and that I could see nothing even with a lit torch. i can't seem to mine anywhere either.

Does this mean that my cave is useless as it's to small for anything?

This is as far as I can move in any direction, got a torch lit as you can see, and can't see anything. Any suggestions would be appriciated.

Download a client / Gilbertus or Ender and try the nightvision

Nah, it's one of them bugged caves, there's only entrance and no actual cave inside. I've never seen one, but I've heard about a couple of them.

Since the tiles near entrance can't be mined, it's totally useless, go find another cave.
