A question about prospecting

Postby Paislee » Sun Mar 06, 2011 5:40 pm

When I attempt to prospect for minerals, sometimes I get a message that says something like, "Direction: -7, delta: 5," along with visual radius without the cone to show you direction. Nothing about a percent. Am I doing it wrong? :|

Code: Select all
[00:16] <loftar> What is the problem, to begin with?
[00:16] <Tonky> just a circle and nothing else
[00:16] <Tonky> and prospect again to find nothing
[00:17] <loftar> Ah, that. That's just a bug in the blip effect, actually.Whenever it shows just a circle with no dart, you should interpret it as east.

If I go a few steps to the east I get, "No minerals found."

I also have a question about prospecting.

Okay, so, if it says in a dialog box, that there's minerals, it means that there's minerals below you, and you have to make a minehole to get down there. But, what does the dowsing rod arrow mean? Let's get a clear cut, once and for all answer: Does it mean that there's minerals BELOW you, in that direction, or that there are minerals ON THE SAME LEVEL AS YOU, in that direction?

I think it always points to minerals below you.

No thinking about it. It always points at the minerals on the layer below the one you are on.

Yes, it does that. Just keep going and prospecting every 5 or 6 steps and after a few tries you'll find the vein.

Prospecting is just bugged. It does that even when you stay on the same tile sometimes. First you get an arrow, try again without moving and using the same rr extract and it says no mineals found.

so how do you search for minerals then other than wandering around until you luck out and are standing on top of one?

actually more about that topic later on
12:20 loftar > If anything, it might be susceptible to aliasing effects at certain points. I was planning a minor fix to stabilize it, but I forgot about it.
12:20 Tonky > yeah, that minor fix, i was asking about :) glad you remember it now
12:21 loftar > Or no, actually, it seems I hadn't forgot about it. It seems to be in the code. :)
12:21 Tonky > oh?
12:21 Tonky > so is it fixed?
12:21 loftar > To the best of my knowledge, at least.

i havent got time to try prospecting again after this conversation yet, though.
