small village or not?

Postby SpiderJerusalem » Tue Mar 08, 2011 6:15 pm

so heres the situation:

me and a friend play hermit style.

soon we will have enough ressources to build a village claim, but we don't want to be a big village with a lot of members.we would take maybe 3 other people and only after some time.basicly I want it for crossroads but is it worth the cons like more attention?
I don't want raiders to think like "oh look a small village, I bet they have good stuff lets raid them" because I don't have the power to defend myself against a faction.A low level random griefer, sure, but not a real village with plate armos or something...

soo: is it worth the risk and work?

I've never met a raiding group that passed up an easy raid, whether you have no walls, walls, personal claim, village claim; whatever.. they're going to raid you if they want to raid you. The attention you'll get will be about the same, except maybe now you'll look more formidable. Showing you can make progress in the game makes you a more questionable raid target, imo.

But, it also depends on your location and how friendly you are with your neighbors. If you're right down the river from some big raiding village, it's just an eventuality.. If you're going around taunting people or being a pest, same idea. Make friends with the people near you, at the very least if they get raided you might hear about it and get prepared.

Anyways, what good is the game if you have to run and hide from even the thought of raiders coming? Put your village claim up and shout it's name proudly!

in my area live very few people and we don't live at the river, you cant see my claim for the river. In my area are 3 villages, 1 I'm friends with, 1 I don't know, 1 is bowerstone and they seem to have their own problems.I saw tons of battery/assault scents on their village claim today and somebody looted their barterstand I think...

and I have friends in a powerfull polish village in the south

but they add me to their village for trade and that wouldn't work anymore if I get my own village...

Bowerstone had a thread up, seems there's been a coup d'etat and some other nonsense over there.. just leave them alone, they're probably too busy in their own drama to worry about you.

Make a new character, hearth secret spawn into your village, log out. Now you have a character you can trade with any time, and if they get killed somehow, you only lose what was on your character. Also you can make a crossroads leading to them, and let them make one leading to you (make sure it's outside your walls though, wouldn't want them to get raided and give access to raiders like that :P). Problem solved?

Anyways, it's good that you've made some powerful friends, they might be able to come help you in case you get raided.

*edit* PS: I'm not the best player out there or anything, hopefully some of the more experienced players will come in here and nod at my suggestions; else fix them.

The crossroads thing is a very good idea if you have people with some high AGI to make the trip (if they're a fair bit away). But definately, DEFINATELY, make sure it's outside the walls.

Go ahead with the village, it'll give you a better feel of claim over your own area. You can always make banners to extend if you want, or just have your own personal claims outside the village. the Claim also provides the same decay protection as a personal claim, which is also good.

Oh that doesn't really matter. Whoever is the first person with Lawspeaking to interact with the idol becomes to the Lawspeaker. Chieftain is essentially given similar powers as the Lawspeaker, with some minor modifications here and there. Just make some grape juice, let it ferment to wine. The bonus from that (even with base 10 cha) is enough to become the chieftain.

Yes, build a village. Crossroads are a godsend. That's really all it breaks down to.
