Yes, they can. You can be capable of killing one about after an hour of game-play if you're starting fresh, solo. It just takes 2 rabbits, 5 string, a couple of branches, and some wits to take one down.

except you have to dry the rabbit hides for a day. as for the OP, pike, sturgeon, brill all supply str. so do ant soldiers. so does pumpkin.

personal favorite is pumpkin... but the seed is common in my area I've found a bunch of abandonned farms with it growing there.
