How do I...?

Postby Llama1337 » Thu Mar 10, 2011 2:07 am

Keep from getting mauled by wildlife? First I'm told foraging is the best way to get LP early on. I'm inclined to agree, but what the hell? Carrying my boat to a river, a bear comes from behind a cluster of trees and POW! Two days worth of LP down the shitter. No chance to even run away. Why is shit like this allowed? It seems like between griefers and wildlife, the potentially awesome game that this is, just keeps coming up lacking for me.

There's a number of clients out there that give you the ability to hide things like trees to help prevent this from happening.

The easiest way to not get mauled? Avoid the animals.

Oh, so use an alternate client to effectively cheat and remove next to all artistic appeal (not that there's much to begin with) this game has?

Amazing... Save for the few gems this game has to offer (being able to build your own village in a persistent game world is one of the only saving graces of this game), there are glaring design flaws. Why would anyone invest their time, let alone donate to, a game where you lose a good chunk of everything you've worked days/weeks/months for? It's discouraging, and there's a reason successful MMOs don't do it. I guess that also has something to do with why this game will probably never see 2000 players. :/

I use Ender client, I don't know if it has xray if it does I don't use it. But if you have a game client that allows you to properly full-screen (Only reason I use Ender) you can middle click ahead of your direction to "scout" the area.

You can do this with the default client as well, though its not as effective. I don't think my method is considered cheating either as the game _should_ be able to run fullscreen.

tl;dr - Be aware of your surroundings, this game is not a forgiving MMO that you can play without paying attention and mashing 2 buttons.

I use an alternate client to play fullscreen. I do not hide any scenery nor will I. It's quite easy to see animals in the distance, and once you get basic leather armor, you won't be killed as long as your boat is within a couple screens even if you do get jumped :)

Everyone dies to wildlife early once. For me I lost about a week of progress. It's part of learning.

Easy to say be aware of your surroundings when the bear is hiding behind a couple ill-placed trees at night.
