Animals giving birth over a fence

Can animals (cows) still give birth over a palisade if it has a an empty space between the fence surrounding their pen and the palisade itself?

Animals seem to be able to give birth at quite a distance, and your description seems to be within their launch zone. To be safe I would say that you should give your animals at least 20 tiles radius of buffer zone.

Cows have birth in much the same way we launch rockets. Projectile calves are common place, so much sure you have about 8 tiles of lea-way from where your cow is being pinned to the wall, so that the calf won't be born outside of your control.

Indeed, surround the pen with the skeletons of aurochs etc.
