Fences

Ok, so, I want to protect my claimed land and the baskets and shit I have on it.

If I build a fence around it, can I still get to it?
Even if I put a fence around my claimed land and put my hearth fire in the fence, then I can't get past my own fence to leave, can I?
Forgive me if this is a stupid question.

You can either leave a small opening, or destroy the fence and rebuild it if you have enough strength. Gates are coming eventually.
