scents and whisper?

if you leave scents and somebody tracks them, do you get some kind of notification?

a friend of mine left scents and talked something about a message that pop up while he was playing saying something about "don't you hear the whisper"( he doesn't remember it exactly and I didn't read it).he is now paranoid about somebody tracking him.

any idea what that was?
