Your sentence confused me. There are two ways to earn lp, Discovery and Curiosity. Every time you find a brand new item and bring it into your inventory, you discover it. This gives lp and unlocks recipes. There are some exceptions, as if someone else takes it first and then gives it to you, but that's about it.
Curiosities, as you seem to understand slightly, vary in how long they take and how much lp they give. Curiosities that are craftable generally give the least lp and vary greatly in how long they take to study. Foraging, hunting, and exploring leads you to better lp curiosities that tend to be quick and great lp~! Certain tasks, like woodworking, stone chipping, etc. etc.. also can yield high lp curiosities that take a very long time to study. To study multiple things at once, you'll want to get more int -- blueberries and fishing are great for this.
I know you're saying you're frustrated with it but with a little patience, you'll go far and remember, you study things while offline, so you don't need to sit there and watch your character constantly to progress =D
