Cant make backpack...

So I have leather working, I have 5 pieces of leather, and yet I cant make a backpack. Anyone know why this would be.

Did you pull the leather from the tub? Have to do that to get the discovery LP and the leather recipes

Well thats ridiculous. I have no problem with the new way of earning lp, but I think that no matter how you find a item you should get recipes it involves.

This is going to become problematic once trade starts up. People buying metal bars won't have the capacity to use them -- so it's either tools, ore, or bust for newbies.

I've been thinking about this myself, and I'm inclined to agree. It's not just the newbies that are going to be hurt by it, but some of the vets, too, that like to hermit farm or whatever.

This is true. Theft is already hard enough as it is. For what it costs to buy theft, you can found a village. Not to mention the hearthvault you need to setup before hand so that you ever actually get to enjoy your stolen prizes.

Well....there is a reason I have leather and cant make a backpack. I mean all I wanted was a little backpack and this guys unclaimed land with him afk in the doorway and he had like 15-20 leathers stored there, all I wanted was 5. Four for a backpakc and 1 for a flask, then I get screwed over by needing the actually take this leather out of a tanning vat. So sadly this guy also lost a tanning vat with a almot done hide. However I also thought of this. Theivery is pointless now. You can either set up a village and get to the point where you learned how to make everything then leave and steal stuff you can now use or you can just run around stealing pointless things. It is kind of sad.
