Question about hunting

Postby Aronos » Fri Mar 18, 2011 2:04 am

I've hunted in the past before in W3 and but not in W4 as I only played it for the last two weeks before W5 was introduced.

Now that animals have murder, I'm not really sure how to go about hunting. My understanding is that Foxes, Boars, Bears, Aurochs, and Buffalo all have murder. The way I used to hunt was to shoot from a boat, disengage when the run and just punch em till they died. Initially, I thought only some animals had murder, like this boar has it, the next one might not. I didn't realize that they all have it, it's just a chance weather or not they actually murder you after knocking you out. I died a few days ago which wasn't a big deal because I had just start over as a result of the launch of W5. I was hunting a boar, it ran, I punched it, I then disengaged, and then when I walked up to punch it again, it reaggroed me and murdered me. Because of this, I'm kind of afraid to hunt. I know lots of people do it just fine without any problems but I want to know how I can chase something down and beat on it without it reaggroing me.

Can you guys tell me how to hunt "safely?"

Also, what level marksman do I need to maintain aim on moving targets?

Don't disengage combat, shoot the boar till it starts running and then give chase, punching it as you get opportunity. Make sure you got some water with you so you don't run out of stamina and it gets away.

You can also finish off animals without them running, but I prefer making boars run because it's faster. You simply need to shoot them right after they twitch.

All animals have murder now, but I think only bear (And Trolls) are the only ones that are 100% guaranteed to kill you if they KO you. Also, Foxes, Boar, bear, and trolls can break down things (Construction sites, walls, boats, etc). I know for certain however, that Mouflon, and Aurchosen do not break down anything in their path. I'm unsure about deer.

Hijacking this thread, since my question is related to it, and will give attention to OP's question as well:
-At what skill level should one switch from a sling, to a bow?

Bears are not guaranteed to kill you. I don't advise using a bow until you have a q40 bow and 80 marksmenship, until then the speed of the sling is too juicy to let go of.

I've been learning how to hunt and it is very risky and difficult at first because you do not know the system works and how animals will behave. Whatever you do don't try to follow the wiki, that's what I did and it almost got me killed several times.

Hunt from a boat until the animal flee, then hop on the groud and punch them once or twice will kill them. Some animals run faster than you or heal so i don4t advise hunting them until later. You can trap them with sign tought so they can4t flee (they destroy sign only when they attack you, they don't when they flee).

Aiming on a moving target is a no-no in this game aparently, honestly i think aming is stupidly slow but that personal opinion i guess. I had 100mm last world and even with a sling i couldn4t aim a moving target, it would stay on the deep red (under 10% of the bar).

Honeslty i think hunting with less than 50mm is retarded, but we don't have choice i guess. Under 50 even with a sling it is very slow to aim, 50 is the acceptable limit to me.

(I didn't get auroch hair :( it's dead body was laying right there, I could have just plucked some)
