First off, pick everything off trees you can, dig the ground, dig in the river until you get clay. That'll get your start LP

Then buy the skills Foraging, Hunting, Lumberjacking, and finally carpentry after you've made a bonesaw from a rabbit that hunting lets you catch. Carpentry lets you make several symbel items that are all good discovery LP from wood blocks.

After that you're going to want to pump up exploration to about lvl 10. That lets you see more things to forage. Survival should be increased to 10 next. Survival gives better quality items from foraging.

You should be mowing cone cows and any forageable curios you can get at this point. Especially learn how to raid ant hills, soldiers queens and empresses give the best LP possible for a new player.

If you haven't managed to steal a boat by this point, get boatbuilding next. Boat around and make a living off raiding ant hills.

This should get you on your feet in the game.

Hunting, foraging, lumberjacking, carpentry, 5 exploration, fishing, boatbuilding, some more exploration, animal husbandry, leather working. After that work on raising exploration, a bit of survival (make sure to wear double nettle gear), and finally marksmanship when you can make a sling (no more marksmanship than 2x your sling q).

If you can afford it early on it's also worthwhile to pump up to 10UA so you can successfully raid anthills without having to run away.

A steep price, but easily obtaining soldiers helps a lot.

Also, should go without saying but make sure you pump for first PERSONAL BELIEFS point into PEACEFUL in order to maximize your bootstrap LP (which once you use, it's gone).

I'd skip on boat building if you don't absolutely need it--lack of terrain variety or stuck on a poor island. It's nice to cruise around quickly, fishing, and to hunt big game, though. The points there are a few you can use to get Yeomanry if you're by yourself. (And even if you're not by yourself, you need it to help place construction signs for a Pali or repair one.)

5 UA is all that is needed to raid an anthill without needing to kite the ants off first. 7 or 8 makes a bit of a better buffer.

After going peaceful, I'd even say going one or two points into Civilization unless all you plan on doing is mining and combat where you need the str and hp.

I've heard the "10 UA to raid an anthill without kiting" thing before, but I don't quite understand it. I have my UA at 10, and still get damaged for about 8 points a hit (with leather armor on) when I'm raiding an anthill. Am I missing something, or how does this work?

If you have 10 UA, click raid, and don't move. If you stay still (and just let the raid timer fill up), each ant will hit for about 25% of your defense bar (3x25<100, so you'll be safe). If you're moving, they will hit through your defense bar to your hp (And cancel your whole def bar too)
