Planning treeplanting

I'd like few tips on how do you plan the areas you plant your trees in and how do you keep track of their qualities etc with minimal amount of confusion included.

Not that hard to group them together much like you would fields of crops. Also make sure to stagger your planting on the north-south line so that chopped trees don't land on the stumps of others.
