Taming Animals

What are the recommended safe stats for taming animals? I think it would be fun to tame some aurochsen or mouflon, boars even, but I don't want to get killed trying to charge up Quell. Is there a technique to it? Oxcarting looks fun and useful too, unless it's more hassle than it's worth.

You should probably have at least 1 Unarmed combat, 10 Strength, 10 Con, and maybe ~100hp just in case.
If you can, wear some leather armor just to make sure you can't kill yourself. Make sure you have the skills Leadership, Brawling, and either Fire & Ice or Warrior Spirit.

I see what you did there.

Alrighty though, thanks for the advice :). I never like taking risks too much with permanent character death and 75% stat loss, haha. Nice to have a handle on what to do.

Oh also, if you Quell an animal then hop in a boat to stay out of reach for when it bucks, will it remain leashed to you with its Tameness intact? Or does it lose its taming progress if it can't reach you

Did you even read the wiki? i refuse to answer that question when the wiki link is a few posts up and it specifically mentions that in there.

Yes, I did read the wiki, and it was very vague on the matter.

Ring of Brodgar Wiki wrote:At this point, the beast has gained +20 tameness and the battle is over. You may wish to walk a distance away so that the rest of the herd stops being aggressive towards you. Do not break apart the fences you've created. The animal is leashed, but is still wild.

Roughly 10 minutes from now -- but highly variable -- the beast will break its leash and become aggressive again, throwing you into combat. It will do this even if it cannot actually see you or attack you, so long as you are nearby.

Guessing this is what you were referring to? It's not very specific and it says you need to remain "nearby". The "See Also" link at the bottom was more useful however.

- You can walk as far as you like, so long as you're back in time to tame the angry animal once more.

- Do not walk in to houses, this will disengage the animal and you will have to start again.

- Do not attempt to tame another animal or engage another animal, from what I've seen (someone can correct me here) it will also disengage the animal.

So I guess that works.
