so when i mine, nothing is put into my bags, but stone is dropped on the floor. does that mean this spot has no ore, or is there just tons of stone and some ore inside?

There is no ore on the square you are mining when stone drop on the floor. Ore go directly in your bag if it is not full. Ore nodes are like all the gathering node, they have a kind of shape, like clay for exemple, so you can go few steps away each time, don't need to ming each single tile to see if they are ore.
