Farming question

Postby Sitting_Bill » Sun Mar 20, 2011 3:32 pm

Hi guys,

Sorry another question here...

If I try to use the "harvest crops" ability on some crops before they are ready, will it ruin them? I'm not sure how I can tell when they are ready... Also, if I leave them too long will they be ruined?

Cheers!

You can't harvest them when they aint ready and no it won't ruin the crop Q if you leave it there for too long

exceptions : carrot and hemp
carrot = harvestable at 2nd last stage, youll get seeds instead of carrots
hemp = harvestable at 2nd last stage, youll get a hemp bud and lose seeds and a fibre.

Also beets. You get beet root (replantable), greens and no seeds if you harvest too early.
Like carrots harvesting too early doesn't destroy your crop, it merely reduces its yield. As far as I remember hemp is the only thing you can harvest before it is ready and end up with nothing you can replant.

Hi thanks for your answers - is there a visual way I can tell what stage the plants are at?

Thanks again!

Beets don't produce seeds just like onions and hops. Also, beets are only harvestable at the final growth stage.

I am pretty sure you can harvest carrots at their 3rd from final stage and get a single carrot.

Hi sorry another question... I just realized the 48 hours for growing wheat on the wiki is when you have bees as well... as I don't have straw yet, can't have bees... So how much longer is the wheat going to take to grow?

Also, do all crops speed up with bees?

Also, how many beehives should I build eventually? Do I need 1 per crop tile, or what?

Thanks again, sorry for the incessant questions :)

Not sure how long they take without hives. All crops speed up by being in the beehive radius. It's really not beneficial or necessary to have more beehives than to you need to cover all of your crops.

Carrots have 3 stages of growth where they can be picked - one where you get 1 carrot, one where you get seeds and a final one where you get more than one carrot, provided your industry/nature slider allows for it. (full nature = always 3 carrots).

Beehives when you build them show a radius of action so they cover quite a bit, maybe 20 tiles or so in diameter. For a starting farm you should be ok with one.

Wheat is maybe 2-3 days before it's harvestable. When you can harvest a crop, you get the Harvest option when you right click on it.
