Will a cave-in instantly kill you?

I'm beginning to mine.. and I haven't found a single ore yet so I cant build one of those mining supports yet. I'm worried about cave-ins.. had one happen yesterday and the rocks landed behind me, fortunately. If they land on me though, is it an instant death?

Rocks do 50HHP damage and you're likely to get hit by one or two of them, so if you're a beginner character with only 100HP then there's a chance you could die.

They just disappear when they land on you?

A couple just landed on me, knocked me out, brought me to half health. Not too bad. And they did disappear.

Did they fix the cave-ins? They were sometimes dropping 5 or more rocks at a time.

Also. a cave-in can drop 'permanent' debris, even blocking your path. It can be destroyed, but takes a lot of stamina and time.

What was there to fix? Dropping multiple rocks doesn't seem like a bug.

Also, they don't seem to be a set amount of damage per rock. Rather, the diminish as you take higher numbers of them, for some odd reason. Players have been reporting taking uneven amounts of damage with and without armor/headgear. My own miner, who was without armor and had broken his bearcape earlier by a surprise boar last world, reported taking a strange ~270 damage from a cave-in.
