Stupid mining questions

Postby WarpedWiseMan » Mon Mar 21, 2011 5:09 pm

In New Cockhaven I was the resident Nature guy. Now I'm tasked with Industry.

So here's my stupid mining questions:

When digging into a cave wall what determines finding ore?

Is it possible to find ore in another section of a cave if none is found in a different section?

If a cave has no ore, would a mine hole built within also be devoid of ore?

Can you find more than one type of ore in a single cave?

If a mine hole has copper, can another very close by have iron?

Thanks in advance.

You're just looking for nodes and nodes are randomly located on the map. So you can dig into a copper vein and then a iron vein nearby. You cannot turn stone into iron however. If you're getting stone, you won't get ore out of that wall. Same for if you're getting ore, you won't get stone out of that wall.

ore is in veins now, so it's basically random but once you find some there will be ore in that area.

yes

not necessarily. mine holes can be built anywhere. prospect to find a place to build one where there is ore below.

yes

Something I wonder about is how likely is it that there will be more than one vein in a fairly good-sized cave?

If you're lucky.

That is very likely. You'll often find around three veins, unless you're sloppy while taking wall samples.

In that line of thought, how big are ore veins and how should cave walls be checked for them? I'm currently mining each 5 squares along the cave wall but I started to doubt if could miss a vein; should I be checking each and every square of the wall instead?

it once even happens to me to not finding ore after building a mineshaft. seems like the shaftarea killed the whole vein, so build the shaft a bit aside

When prospecting, what does a big red circle with no arrow mean?
