Fence Plug?

Postby drkpagan » Thu Mar 24, 2011 3:16 pm

I searched the forums for how to make a plug when building a palisade or brick wall against a ridge, but can't seem to find some instructions on how to do it.

Is anyone able to explain this to me please?

I don't know exactly what you mean, but you can hold shift while you're setting the initial cornerpost to place it as close to the ridge as possible. Then, when the signpost is set, try your hardest to walk around it. If you can't, then your palisade will be secure against the ridge, but also note that setting your cornerpost this way will likely offset it from the grid which may cause problems further down the line with building.

Pretty sure you're referring to building a aecond palisade wall post. Simply using a fence is only going to keep out people without vandalism... and to be honest those aren't the people you should be worried about.

You hold shift to take the item off the grid. Nudge the palisade post towards the cliff a little more and see if you can get around the sign. When you can't you have your plug and can build it.

IMO probably worth just encircling the ridge. You're probably going to need more space than you think in the future. I've learned the hard way that you often need a lot more space than you originally expect.

Not quite sure if that's what the OP had in mind, but I'm having a problem building the last part of a palisade next to a ridge. Case in point:

Image

I cannot extend the palisade to that empty square next to the rigde; I tried approaching it from distance, different angles, etc. - nothing works. Furhtermore, I cannot place any square-sized object there (e.g. tanning tub, wicker basket), the only thing I can place a signpost for is a dream catcher. Shift-placing also doesn't work - it either intersects the existing palisade and I get an error message, or the signpost simply does not appear. On the other hand, a character can walk through that square without any issues.

Any suggestion how I can plug this hole in my wall?

The cliff is blocking the square partially, preventing any object from being built there. You cannot even unalign a building from the grid to block it in that square. Your only solution is to build a palisade post in one of the adjacent squares. Unalign the palisade post by holding shift and adjusting it slightly so that you can build it and so that it blocks the way. Test it before you construct the post to see if the signpost is actually blocking the path or if it's still leaving a gap large enough for you to walk through.

Move your palisade to the corner of a ridge. It tends to block squares fully.

I know it wont help you now but when i plan palisades I test questionable spots with a regular fence. I just add a branch without actually building and if it works and i can not walk around the sign then i think it is good to go. So maybe that is something for you to try when planning your next palisade.
