How do I avoid getting killed?

I recently found a spot I like and found an advanced camp near me, which seems to be inhabbited by 1 person, but may be 2.

I would not like to get murdered, and they seem to be rangers which could be dangerous for my health. How do avoid them murdering me?

Move somewhere else. Other options would be to try and talk to them (you can use an alt for this) or get at least a palisade up to be safe from random attacks.

Only if you've left theft, vandalism, battery, or murder scents.

Not unless you engaged in criminal activities and left scents (of theft, vandalism, battery or murder) which can then be used to track you down and summon you even while being offline.

Describe vandalism, like does it still count if I try to but don't destroy the object? Also does having criminal activites off mean I cannot engage in them?

On a side note, if you put a skeleton in a river does it drift away? Or what is a good way of getting rid of them?

Yes, if you don't have criminal acts on, then you can't perform criminal activities. You need the vandalism skill then it encompasses any act involving destroying objects on someone's claim or village claim to which you don't belong or have permission on. Also harvesting crops, killing their animals, or collecting resources (water, clay, soil, sand) from someone's claim.

You can just break them. That or lift them, walk onto shallow water, and log off.

Doesn't do much good when most players use custom clients that can hide trees or have an xray mode so you can see through them.
