Storing scents for later tracking?

Is it possible to store scents in a cupboard after the scent "node" on the ground has expired? I got griefed yesterday and I need to decide if I should track the perpetrator first while I still have fresh scents or build up my defenses and seek revenge later.

They will slowly decay, at the time the node is done they're too.

I have theft scents in my inventory, they haven't shown signs of decay. Footprints on claim are gone.
