So I need wax baaadely. Can I build a beehive without having any farm around it? Or won't it produce anything unless it has plants?

it needs to do work on plants before it produces any wax of honey.

Go buy some wax from neighbors. Is that problem? Someone could ever give it for you for free.

Wax. Who need wax? We have plenty of it. High-q cones and seeds, craftable curiosiities, clay, good pickaxes, full-upgraded tables and so - this are the things that we usually steal.
