Owning land and your livestock

Lets say you have a cow. Your land extends to just the fence of where the cow lives, but someone with a bow comes and shoots at the cow while outside of my land. Does it still leave scent that they killed my cow even if they never entered my land (like they didn't even get the loot)?

Domesticated animals cannot be killed in the traditional sense. Only through the right click > slaughter function, and if it's on claimed land I do believe it leaves a scent. Don't quote me on that last point though.

I think slaughtering livestock is vandalism?

I can confirm this, when we were griefed the griefer slaughtered our cows, and it left vandalism scents.
