Cheating metal discoveries with an alloying crucible

Postby Fichina » Thu Mar 31, 2011 5:30 pm

This has been brought up at least once, but I don't think it was ever actually answered.

If you buy a metal bar off of someone and then break it down into nuggets does that count as discovering nuggets (of that kind of metal anyways)? Conversely if you then melt those nuggets back into a bar does that discover bars?

It's not cheating in the slightest. You could always trade for the ore and smelt it yourself after all.

Never thought about crucible melting/unmelting as a way to share metal discoveries with players who don't have the mine themselves. Otherwise having someone with direct access to both gold and silver ore would very possibly be quite difficult if you know what I mean?

This, of course, requires your character to know how to turn bars into nuggets and nuggets into bars. These recipes aren't available until you discover at least one bar of metal of any type.

Mmm, good point. That being said, finding a random tin node's not all that hard. Finding gold/silver... that's different. In some ways it's nice to know a work around if I ever want to make jewelery or something XD Doubt it'll ever happen though.
