skilling, increment v.s. non-increment

is it better to level up your ncrement skills like marksman and exploration first,
or to learn all the incremental skills i want to learn first, like valor, and ranging?

Learning the non-incremental skils will often let you build things to get some some of those LP back. For example, taking pottery will let you build a teapot for the first time.

It really depends on what you need to do. If you are trying to become a good farmer, taking up bee keeping while you are waiting for your plots to grow and improve is a good idea.

If you are going to be a ranger, it is probably a better idea to raise y our unarmed and marksman before you get the ranging skills.

i'm planning on getting the ranging skills eventually i just upped my marksman by 5 points and learned valor with the left over points, and i want to become a miner too as i imagine finding good quailty metal is better then trying to trade for it.... but i'm wondering if i should learn the new skills or up the skills i already have first =/

Basic skill set (foraging, hunting, lumberjacking, carpentry, boatbuilding), then a LOT of exploration, then whatever you want.

Honestly? It's a balance. There's no "best" way to do it because it depends entirely on what your group needs. For new chars, the skills Potjeh suggested and at the very least 10 exploration 10 survival. After that it diverges based on what you need. For a hermit, 20-30 exploration is nice.

Notable skills that are useful regardless what profession:

30 UA (you can sit on anthills and raid at will)

Rage (lets you defend yourself and/or your property)

Ranging (you can track thieves and etc)

Most of the rest is up to you to figure out.

.

can you explain how this would work plz?

would 30 marksman be a good starting point for hunting most things?
i only have 10 preception but i'm working on a carrot farm to hopefully increase it

Markmanship (MMS) is good for hunting things that have low health or run away (or things that you can trap, but I am not qualified to speak on that subject). For example, a bear won't run when it's health is low, therefore, you can sit in a boat and pelt it at will until it dies. Foxes have low enough health that you could probably two shot them (I have no idea).

Unarmed on the other hand is what is used to hunt everything else, including Deer, Boars, and ants. You could raid and ant hil with 30 unarmed (according to him) and not take any damage. Raiding ant hills is a good source for curos.

If you shoot when the animal twitches, it won't run. So yeah, boat and sling is the best way to hunt anything.
