A few questions on silk

Postby cloakblade » Tue Apr 05, 2011 7:35 am

Sorry for asking questions that have been mildly asked before. I've done some looking I just want to confirm what I heard. There are 3 main questions (the first one is multiple parts).

#1 Silk quality:
Silk moth eggs as a baseline
Herb Tables softcaps
Leaves soft cap (if they are lower)
Cauldron doesn't matter?
Spinning Wheel: Soft cap? or can it Increase also?
Loom: Same as spinning wheel?

Where does PSY effect things is it in the production of materials like from Silk to Ranger's Cloak? And does is it combined with dex when determining so (sqrt(dex*psy))?

And at what point does the cuberoot(farming*dex*sewing) come into play?

#2: When feeding silkworms does it matter the placement of them or their food? I want to know if I can just leave silkworms with 4 food each randomly scattered in 1 cupboard or does it have to be organized.

#3: Whats the best way to catch eels? Any suggestion I'm trying to up my PSY to make better silk and symbels. Might be the Jeweler later on.

Thanks for any help.

#1: I've not seen an herbalist table softcap my moth eggs, but then I've not gotten far enough in silk produciton yet, so don't quote me there. The leaves, however, don't softcap the worms, they actually lower the quality by 1 each time they eat a lower quality leaf. For unraveling the cocoon, I think only water q counts as a softcap. (Think that's what the wiki states.) Yes, the spinning wheel and loom will both softcap anything made on it.

#2: As long as the leaves and worms are in the same container, everything is good.

#3: Good luck with the eel. It's a slippery creature to catch... The fishing guide on the wiki isn't 100% accurate, but it is helpful.

It's been noted that a clay cauldron halves the water quality, as the wiki states with hardened leather and such. It may matter there.

Nublet psyche experience = cooked river mussels

Once you hit 1200 exp*per or higher they're dirt common and you can easily collect inventories full of em. They're the only "easy" to get psyche food that I know of. The odd pearl you can get from them sure doesn't hurt either. Side which, dex is a good crafter FEP to be getting on the side.

why do you want eels? they are agi, unless you are planning to make ring of brogdar (seafood). imo it's a lot easier to make ring of brogdar (baking) or just go get cavebulbs. mussels are even easier.

neither cauldron nor water nor fuel have any effect on silk

@Sevenless & Sabinati:
I want eels to make Seafood RoBs (as you guessed) which I want sense it has a wide disputation of stats and psy is the highest. And I don't want to just consume mussels sense that will just increase my dex to even higher amounts and force me to hurt my total FEP requirements more and more. I'm trying to not un-balance my stats and not just brute force Psy out. Maybe its because I'm cheap.

Then completely forget about the eel for psyche. The only way to avoid brute forcing psyche is literally butter steamed cave bulbs. And frankly, those are still easier to acquire than eels unless you get the incredibly rare fishing node in a cave.
