Caves and decay

Does anything at all decay in a cave? Do items disappear in cave if I leave them on the floor? Does an animal corpse also disappear if I leave it on the floor?

Items that can be put in inventory will disappear if they're not in a container. Animal corpses will decay everywhere. Caves are as good as houses, as far as the standard decay protection is concerned.

Buildings don't decay. Items that go in your inventory will decay on the ground. Animal corpses will decay.

So a crate placed on the floor of a cave will not decay? How about a cupboard?

that could make for an interesting lockable "house" in a cave by using a palisade to lock off a section of cave floor.

Cupboards are stable inside a cave.
