Is that the mining pattern that should prevent cave ins or am I doing something wrong?

If no, you might be just lucky.
But from the pic you posted we can tell U only one thing: You don't know how to make helpful screens.

yeah I got boulders.and you are right about the screen , let me try to make a better one

Or could you maybe try to explain the pattern to me?

Try posting the actual full screen instead of the minimap. Edit out anything that you don't think you want others to see with black boxes.

Some people have mentioned that snaking isn't 100% perfect, but I've not had a single cave in and I've been mining a fair bit this world. The snaking should be made of 1x3 tunnels that interconnect into the pattern mentioned above.

Boulders present may lead to further cave ins (?), try snaking in a new area(?). How much damage did the boulders do to you?

well I started the pattern.I broke into a claimed cave, saw the already mined tiles and contiued to mine there with, what I thought was the snake pattern.Maybe the mining from the cave owner caused the cave in.
The first rock hit me for like 50 damage, the second around 60.After that I left.
