Small scale base defence

Postby Hishan » Wed Apr 06, 2011 5:14 pm

Hi everyone, first time poster with a quick question.

After having my base savaged and my hearthfire destroyed for the second time I would like to ask how you guys stop it from happening?

I am working towards yeomanry, but wont people just tresspass onto my land to steal etc?

Apologies If this is a stupid question, or if the answer is blatantly obvious

All feedback appreciated.

A palisade wall? Sounds good, will people just destroy the wall to get at my delicious loot?

Also thank you for prompt responses

Palisades take quite a bit of strength to bash with your hands, otherwise they would need a ram, which takes 12 hours to dry.

Palisades are your friend. Getting the initial post up and built off of requires a bit more effort/attention to the time (make absolutely certain to be online 12 hours after completing the first post so you can build off it without it being sealed by a griefer), but once the palisade is completed, you have just secured your home from the grand majority of run-by griefers.

While people can still trespass on your claim once you get it up, they will be less likely to do so, even before your palisade is completed, because they would then leave trackable scents (summonable if they steal anything) which is usually not worth the trouble over a few hides or low end supplies.

and of course, you should always consider the 3 important rules of real estate: location, location, location

If you REALLY want to avoid griefers, live a good 10 minute walk inland. Then claim and palisade. Nearly guarenteed to be 100% safe, heck it's unlikely anyone would ever find you in there. It's a big pain because you can't boat easily, but alt claiming a bit of the nearby river/lake with a small palisade for protecting boats takes care of that.

Anyone who's determined enough could still kill you, but if you don't build a road to your place the number of people "passing by" would be about 1 per week or two. As compared to 5-20 per day when living on the river.

You could probably find an unclaimed cave in there too.

Thanks for everyones help, I set sail in a boat as far as I could, then walked inland and set up a small inconspicuous base. Just gathering wood while I grind LP for yeomanry
