will animals destroy fences while attempting to flee

Postby Fichina » Thu Apr 07, 2011 3:34 am

I've been trying to hunt deer for forever now, and I've finally managed a sling that can pretty much force a flee on anything I hit with it. Problem is I can't catch up with the deer before they heal up, and if I lose combat suddenly he's ready to fight me again.

Can you fence in a deer to keep it from getting far during a flee, or will they still bust through fences even while paniced?

Alternate question, how much UA to defense bypass a dear.

No, they destroy fences only when pathing to you.

I don't know about bears, but all the other animals I've been able to prevent them from fleeing with a mere signpost pen.

Yes, some animals will break things when fleeing. I about lost a good kiln last world to a boar I was trying to run off and had a deer run over my half completed mansion (all that straw!!!) when fleeing.

My experience is that once a deer flees, it might come back, but it will be passive and you can just melee it down. (Of course, it'll get low again, run, heal, come back, ad nauseum.)

They also come back aggressive if they heal within sight of you I've seen. Lost an entire row of drying racks to that.

Basically... just don't hunt animals inside your base with valuable buildings. If it's deer, I'd say leave it alone. Anything else... I'd prefer to log off than deal with stuff running rampant through my buildings again.

Yes, I've seen deer and boars come back aggressive after being healed by another deer, but not very often. I usually see this when there's more than one person attacking and they aggro on the person who has done the least damage.

I learned to build a trap with a palisade or a couple houses and/or ridges if available. If you have a couple people hunting, you can use two close houses where the two people can block off either end (like a narrow alley). If you're a hermit, you can build a kill zone with your palisade where you can lure the animals into while you come back around to lock them in. This works for boars and deer. I've never had a bear run from me when using my palisade as a protective barrier.
