Where's the best place to use rustroot extract?

Postby Bugssy » Wed Apr 13, 2011 9:51 pm

So I have my rustroot extract ready, and my prospecting skill, and now I want to find some metal nodes.

Is there a particular land type that I should be using it on? Or are metal nodes independent of the land type above them?

I'm not sure. It used to be that mountains and mudflats had the metal -- now it's entirely random I believe. I may be wrong though, I'm not basing this off of any facts or testing.

I'm not 100% certain about this... but I seem to think stone quality in a mountain is related to the stone quality of the ground beneath it? This could be complete bull, but I've been operating under that assumption for a while now. If this were true you could know what Q the metal beneath you would be... but that's not really that useful imo.

But teck is right, metal veins are completely randomly distributed. Rustroot just helps you find out where a vein is if you don't have a cave to play with. Prospecting takes a LOT of rustroot though. I'd say at least 10 jars of extract before I'd even bother starting to prospect.

It seems to be random, but there could be a higher probability in mountains or mudflats, though.

I think it should be used inside caves, to prospect the level below.
Finding copper, tin and iron inside cave layer is easy and needs no prospecting using RR at all.

How is it easy?

Mine the walls
Avoid cave ins
Get ore and smelt it.
???
Profit.

Yeah, you should not try prospecting unless there's absolutely no cave anywhere near your house.

It was a serious question, I didn't ask for a troll response.
I just want to know how you can 'easily' find these metals, because I can never find ore in the caves I've explored.

It just takes time. First you have to randomly mine in places where the stone is soft enough for you to do so, in most cases you get rocks, but occasionally you find ore. But you may also find a cave with no metals in it, so far I haven't known this to be the case but it can happen.
