Random Minehole ?

Postby Gustyboy » Sat Apr 16, 2011 12:09 am

Hi,

I was curious about how mad it is to drop a minehole at random in our base or near our base as we don't have any unclaimed cave near us and we cannot prospect (we don't have the per*explo to find rustroots).
So, what do you think ?

Is it totally mad or is it doable ?

Well you can do it.

But it wouldn't be worth the mats because it's easy to find Rustroot.

IMO it would just be easier to rank EXP*PER to find Rustroot

If you don't have the Per*Exp to find rustroot, you're just as unlikely to have the strength/tools/time to find a node via snaking. It takes an incredible amount of mining to find a node that way on aveage. Just going off my experiences in caves, it would take at least 1000 tiles mined on average to find a node like that.

Have one of your guys specialize in exploration and save the perception food for him. It's the best way to do it short of outright moving after you find an unclaimed cave somewhere.

P.S. Prospecting is often confusing. I'll shamelessly reference my guide on how it works :)

I already red your very nice guide ;)

So I need to get at least 500 per*explo and then find between 10-20 Rustroots ^^

Thanks alot for your advice, I'll save the stuff for the minehole after prospecting then ;)

Glad to see you're doing your research. I don't think I mention it in the guide since it's about prospecting not mining in general, but finding some decent Q stone, getting some sort of bear cape/bear tooth necklace are all essentials for the beginning miner. A Q10 stone can't mine very much, and a decent stone node isn't overly hard to find if you dig around in mountains long enough.

What do you call decent stone ?
I have a branch q10/stone q22 axe. Is it enough ?

You should be able to get a Q40+ stone easily enough. I started with a Q30 axe and it was still pretty hideously slow on anything other than butter soft rock. Basically head to a mountain and trinagulate the center of the node. 30+ stone isn't uncommon from my experiences anyway.

Ok, while wandering for rustroots, I'll stop at a mountain then ;)

Or my friend (Who will be the industry as I am 100% Nature) will do ;)

industry affects mining, feldspar/grey clay collection, silk making, and farming.

Digging stones is completely unaffected by it.
